This program provides prevention, intervention and aftercare and follow-up services. Prevention strategies conducted by the program provide culturally appropriate programs to educate and create awareness about addictions and addiction free lifestyles. Intervention strategies provide assessments and referrals to treatment centres and programs, which may include short-term counseling in crisis situations. After care and follow-up services provide support services from the Family Support Worker, Social Worker and team when the client returns home and to the community. The main objectives include:
Support the community to reduce the incidence of alcohol and other substance abuse;
- Educate and increase awareness of alcohol, substance abuse and alternative lifestyles, which incorporate wellness, cultural values and traditional beliefs; and
- Strengthen relationships with partners (other community based programs, services and treatment centers).
